Keep Your Mind Sharp Over the Summer Break

Brain-training. Study-fitness. A work-out for the mind. What are we talking about? This article is all about keeping your mind sharp and exercising your knowledge over the summer break. This is important because it’s easy to forget the things you’ve learned when your mind is not active. And while an 8-week break from studies might seem like a great idea, avoiding your studies could actually be harmful to your progress; and by not keeping your brain active, you or your child could actually fall behind. So how can you avoid this? We’ve got great tips for ways to keep your mind sharp this summer break.
Study for 30 minutes every day
If you can dedicate just 30 minutes every day to studying your notes and textbooks, the knowledge will stay familiar and current in your mind. We advise choosing the same window of time each day, as it will be easier to get into the habit of your daily 30 minute review. Perhaps, just after you’ve cleaned your teeth every morning, or if it’s your child’s education, just before their mid-morning snack. Get into a routine and don’t forget that consistency is key.
Do a pop-quiz
Do you already feel like you’re on top of everything? Perhaps you want to check you can really remember all those dates or statistics you’ve been practising? Test yourself with a pop quiz! Of course, if you’re the one studying, it’s easier to get someone else to set this up for you. Or, if your child is the student, you might need some assistance choosing the best subject areas. Your Chelsea International Education tutors can help. Try doing 3 pop quizzes – one right at the beginning of the summer, one in the middle, and one at the end, to really keep your brain flexed and to help identify your weak and strong areas.
Write on post-it notes and stick them around the house
This might sound strange but it’s a simple and effective technique. If there are key things you need to review or remember, write them down and stick the post-it notes in places you’re likely to see them over the course of the day. On the mirror in your bedroom, inside your kitchen cupboards, on your keyboard, by the cookie jar, on the coffee table… get creative! What better time to remind yourself of what the US states are than when you’re reaching for a coffee mug? You can also use this same technique for writing down inspirational quotes and motivational study tips.
Set up a summer program
Often, the best way to make the most of your summer and really get the most out of your brain is to set up some summer tutoring sessions. Not only can this be an effective way to keep your mind sharp but it is actually a golden opportunity to get on top of the studies or subjects you or your child are especially struggling with. The Chelsea International Education tutors are dedicated to helping students achieve the best results, and often a summer boost is the perfect time to help make this happen.
For optimum results, why not combine two or more of the above tips, or even all four?
The tutors here at Chelsea Internal Education are specially trained to help you and your child make the most of studying during the summertime break, as well as at any other time of the year. So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to get started.
