On average, a tutoring session is for one hour. However, this duration can vary depending on the program being tutored. Language classes (English or foreign languages), for instance, are typically 30 minutes long; while, SAT and ACT test preparation classes last 1.5-2 hours.
This is entirely up to each student and their availability and academic requirements. Some students need daily homework and assignment support, while others are happy with 1-2 hours per week.
We accept payment via Paypal, AliPay, WechatPay, and UnionPay. We do NOT accept cash payments. Payments must be made at least 48 hours prior to the first tutoring session. Payment confirms the booking, and a Chelsea Tutor will be assigned thereafter.

How We Work

We aim to match students with a Chelsea Tutor immediately on receiving the booking. Online tutoring sessions can take place same day or within the first 48 hours. In-person tutoring sessions can take place with 24-48 hours of the booking. Please contact us immediately if you have an urgent request and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
We can provide a pre-tutoring diagnostic test for all students, if required. As a policy, Chelsea Tutors monitor and evaluate a student’s progress on an ongoing basis. At Chelsea, we believe that knowledge is accumulated incrementally over time, so continuous evaluation is essential to a student’s overall academic success.
Depending on the tutoring program, your Chelsea Tutor will use different curriculum. For subject-tutoring, Chelsea Tutors will use the student’s school, college or university curriculum in order to avoid confusion, discrepancies, and loss of knowledge transfer. For test preparation, for example the SAT or ACT examinations, we only use the official materials provided by the College Board and ACT organization. We do, however, take our test preparation students through a systematic, streamlined test prep system that produces high-level results. For more information about our test preparation programs visit our sister website here: www.GettingIntoTheIvys.com For English-language tutoring we use either the USA Common Core English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum for “English as a Second Language” (ELS) students or, the Cambridge International English language curriculum.
We offer tutoring services from the undergraduate level up to PhD level. Our extensive database of Chelsea Tutors means we have a tutor for almost every college subject in existence, including: statistics, econometrics, financial accounting, college chemistry, and many others. We provide tutoring for dissertation and thesis writing also.
We work with many homeschooled children in a variety of ways, from developing a full homeschooling timetable to simple supplementary support in the form of ad hoc tutoring hours. Chelsea Tutors are available during regular school daytime hours.
All Chelsea Tutors are certified, experienced Educators who have many years of experience working with students who have different learning styles and special needs. Chelsea Tutors, and administrative staff, are fully cognizant of IEP and 504 plans.
Chelsea tutoring programs are designed to provide students with the subject-knowledge and skillsets to enhance their overall academic ability and improve their examination performance. The strategies and techniques taught by Chelsea Tutors need to be used consistently for them to be effective. Diligent students will see better and faster results. Please bear in mind that knowledge accumulation takes place over time, so cramming is never a good “study strategy”. Plus, education is a team effort. Chelsea Tutors work in collaboration with students, and their parents to synergistically obtain the best academic outcome.
After each tutoring session a report is written letting you know what was covered in the tutoring session, assigned homework, if any, and the aim for the next tutoring session. Students (parents) are also encouraged to speak directly with their Chelsea Tutor about their progress and academic expectations.
Chelsea Tutors, and administrative staff, are happy to liaise with a student’s teacher to discuss areas of academic concern. Indeed, we welcome a collaborative effort in a student’s academic success. Contact the Chelsea administrative team for further details.

Cancellations & Refunds

We take pride in providing the ideal Chelsea Tutor to each of our students. However, on the rare occasion, when the “fit” between student and Chelsea Tutor is not optimal we ask students (parents) to contact our customer service team immediately. Please contact us within the first 24 hours of your first tutoring session. We will try to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. We guarantee a 100% refund, or a new Chelsea Tutor at no extra charge, depending on your preference.
We have a 48-hour cancellation notification policy. Students (parents) are asked to respect this policy. Failure to do so may result in your tutoring account being charged in full as a “no-show” session.

Online or in-person tutoring

The majority of Chelsea tutoring programs are offered both online and in-person. Chelsea language classes are available online only.
Online tutoring is delivered using a powerful video-conferencing platform called Zoom. Like Skype, the software is free for personal use.
In-person tutoring can take place either in the student’s home or in a nearby public library.
The fact is both have their merits, and demerits! Online tutoring is great because it is less costly, great for tight budgets, or for students who want to benefit from multiple tutoring hours per week. It also saves time (travel, physical preparation), is flexible (tutoring can take place late at night or over the weekend), and students can gain access to the entire pool of Chelsea Tutor talent (regardless of the distance between the Chelsea Tutor and the student). In-person tutoring is good for tactile learners and for those who need to be physically next to a tutor. Students who have concentration issues, study skills challenges, certain learning differences and/or special educational needs may also benefit from in-person tutoring.
